    Description

This is an original U.S. Army wet-weather parka, the type worn during the D-Day invasion of Normandy (last photo shows this type of parka in use during the invasion, worn by a Naval Beach Battalion seaman at a Navy Communication Command Post, and by an unidentified Naval officer on Omaha Beach between June 7 and June 15, 1944 . *********** This parka has its original specification label, which indicates that it was made under a contract dated November 30, 1944.  The tag reads: "Parka, Wet Weather, MEDIUM, Construction B, Stock No. 72-P-2515, Pattern Dated 1/17/44, SUNLITE MFG. CO., Cont. W-36-030-qm-11145, Dated Nov. 30, 1944, Q.M.C. Tent. Spec. No. 2[illegible], [illegible] INSPECTOR." The parka is made of a rubberized cotton cloth in light OD. It has a drawstring waist and a front opening with 5 blackened brass closures as used on raincoats and galoshes. The hood has an OD cotton drawstring and two grommeted vents on the side, covered with a patch of rubberized cloth. There are two blackened brass grommeted vent holes in each armpit. The cuffs close with an OD cotton tab and blackened brass button. A white specification tag is sewn into the waist band. *********  The parka is listed in the US Army Quartermaster catalog as the "Parka, Wet Weather. Stock No. 72-P-2510 - 72-P-2525. Parka, wet weather, is made from waterproof, two-ply laminated material combined with a synthetic resin."  ************ The parka is in at least very good condition. Has all clasps, drawstring, buttons, tabs, etc. and all work properly. There are no rips or tears, no damage. It shows some light wear and fading, but the cloth is quite flexible and in nice condition. Has some wear, and some soiling and light stains, but overall I'd say very good to excellent, lightly used condition. ******* This week I also have for sale a mint condition set of wet weather trousers, which are the companion piece to this clothing system. **********  I can ship worldwide.
